Thailand is a diverse country with many different faces.
My boyfriend Nino and I chose to travel to the more natural and peaceful south, starting at Phuket.
How did we travel
Firstly, we traveled in December 2021 during Covid. Luckily, we got our Thai Passes a few days before they stopped issuing them. The good thing about Covid is that most people stopped traveling due to more complicated entries into the countries of destination.
Therefore there were hardly any tourists. :)
(So next time Covid hits, book that flight!)
Additionally, we traveled without suitcases, only with hand luggage, which helps to avoid waiting periods and complications.
Phuket
Our airplane landed in Phuket, and we stayed a few hours in our quarantine hotel at the Patong Beach, where we had to wait for our test results from the airport.
After we got them, we spent the evening on the Walking Street, astonished by the amount of people and lights.
However, we were happy to catch our bus to the more peaceful Krabi the next day. There we found a hotel at the movie-like Ao Nang Beach, where most tours start.
7 Island tour
For the next day we had booked a privat seven island tour, which was one of the most beautiful experiences we ever had.
The first stop was on Tup Island, a smaller one, where we took a few pictures.
Next we drove by the well-known chicken island. After that we spotted a beautiful small bay, we later found out the island‘s name was Ko Po Da Nai, and asked our boats driver to stop there.
After a short exploration of the cave there we continued to drive to Pada Island, where you can snorkel and take snapshots.
The last stop was Railbay, which was an absolute highlight for us. After taking some pictures at the beach it started to rain. The combination of the pouring rain and the different colors of the sunset took our breath away.
Hong Island tour
The next day we went on the Hong Island tour, which started with Lading Island, where you can find the first swing to take some pictures with and a monkey forest.
Next stop was Pading Island. We got our lunch there and besides some geckos you‘ll find there some beautiful foto spots including a swing.
After the lunch break we went to the main island of this tour, Hong Island. First we drove through the hidden bay there, where we saw overgrown hillsides and a beautiful mangrove forest.
Our last stop was at the beach of Hong Island, where we took a bath and decided to hike up to the viewpoint, from where you can look at the whole island and the ones around it. Even though the walk up is exhausting, the view is definitely worth it!
Ko Phi Phi
The day after the Hong Island tour we went to Ko Phi Phi by boat. There arrived, we took the walk up to the viewpoint there. Again, we were rewarded with a stunning view.
We spent our night in a bungalow at the beach, where it is quite peaceful. Additionally, there is a lovely swing on the beach where you can take some snapshots.
Phuket
Our last day we drove back to Phuket, Karon Beach, where we rented a motorcycle to drive down to the southern viewpoint Laem promthep, which is a great spot to watch the sunset. The next day we caught our flight back to Austria.
I hope this post gave you a nice overview above the highlights of Southern Thailand. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
